our land, our way of life
Land. Wars are fought over it.
Humans live off it. Families are built upon it.
Love evolves around it. Claims are staked on it.
Appalachians are tied to their land
Their lives depend upon it.
Threaten a Kentuckian’s property, battle surely ensues…
Be the owner a man, woman or child.
That land sustains. As a source of shelter, food, pride, heritage.
It’s an anchor into this wild ocean of society, back into a simpler time
One we heard of from elders, stories held so dear.
Where the problems of life were mere survival
Instead of foolish political, societal, financial ones.
Land is the place the know we belong.
And if need be, with work, we know this land is self sustaining.
An escape from fussy society.
No matter how hard life gets or what choices we must make,
Our Land is our retreat. Our home.
Our energy becomes renewed.
Like the spring up on the hill, hope is still there.
In the land of an Appalachian.
As long as you have certain desires about how it ought to be you can’t see how it is.
Who inherits your iTunes library? →
Many of us will accumulate vast libraries of digital books and music over the course of our lifetimes. But when we die, our collections of words and music may expire with us.
Someone who owned 10,000 hardcover books and the same number of vinyl records could bequeath them to descendants, but legal experts say passing on iTunes and Kindle libraries would be much more complicated.
And one’s heirs stand to lose huge sums of money. “I find it hard to imagine a situation where a family would be OK with losing a collection of 10,000 books and songs,” says Evan Carroll, co-author of “Your Digital Afterlife.” “Legally dividing one account among several heirs would also be extremely difficult.”

My child plays youth league football and this is terrifying to me.

Sharing Poetry: Elizabeth Barrett Browning, "How Do I Love Thee?" →
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.
I love thee to the level of everyday’s
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for…
